AT WORK IN 2013
HERE IS A LIST OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS THEY CHOSE TO SUPPORT FOR 2013:
American Red Cross - May of this year the Sunshine Committee donated to the Red Cross with the designation that the funds would benefit victims of the devastating Lewiston fires.
The HOPE Fund – Is a part of York County Community Action. The mission of York County Community Action Corporation is to alleviate the effects of poverty, attack its underlying causes and to promote the dignity and self-sufficiency of the people of York County, Maine. The mission of The HOPE Fund is to give emergency assistance with the goal of helping individuals and/or families move forward toward economic stability. This can range from a new pair of shoes to help dress someone for an upcoming interview, to a tank of fuel to tide someone over till their next pay check.
Wounded Warriors – This is a national organization that assists Wounded Veterans return to normal life. Thank you to all the Veterans past and present who have served country!
Ethel’s Tree of Life – Offers integrated mentor and recreation based activities, opportunities and projects which promote the building of independent living skills (life and work skills) for youth and young adults who live with disabilities and/or special needs.
What is the Sunshine Fund? The main purpose is to assist the employees of Village Candle in times of need financially and to send flowers when employees have significant life events (births, deaths, marriage or serious illness).
In 2013 the Sunshine Committee has assisted 21 employees for various reasons (illness, fuel assistance, car repair, rent, insurance, and life events).
*Once per year the Sunshine Committee will donate to local charities up to 20% of the funds received during the year either through fund raising or payroll deductions.
